I have a couple shows in Michigan this weekend. I am screening the Documentary The Murals on Sunday, and doing a short Q&A and soundtrack showcase after on acoustic guitar. An old friend from Grand Rapids is joining me on acoustic guitar. The night before I am doing a music/film set. Why oh why? I always say you need to be active and doing things so that you don’t get dull, and you can keep your skills sharp. I have a monologue I was working on, and need to tape it, I picked it up for an audition. Getting in front of people singing, playing guitar, acting is all the same in a way….do something so you can keep sharp!
It can be hard to keep momentum going when trying to find places to screen, or places to play shows. The only thing you can do is keep at it. I took a long bike ride the other day, and the wind was very strong in my face. The funny thing was, when I turned around to go back north, the wind had switched directions and was in my face once again. I rode slow and steady, and made my stops on my appointed route and accomplished what I set out to do. I think it is a good metaphor for an artist in the face of struggles, lack of interest, and missed opportunities. All you can do is go forward into the wind.
